Lt Col John H Fisher MBE DL

Mr Fisher was educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst from 1963-65. He was commissioned into the Royal Corps of Signals and served in both command and staff appointments in Germany, Hong Kong, Northern Ireland, Norway and Turkey.
He had a varied career and served for 4 years as a squadron officer with the Queens Gurkha Signals in the Far East and at the other end of the spectrum commanded a Ski-borne unit in the Arctic for two years.
He was both a student and Instructor both at Sandhurst and later at the staff college. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel having commanded his regiment in Germany.
On leaving the Army he ran a software company on the Isle of Wight which specialised in the oil, gas and food process industries. This company became a global enterprise with offices in Singapore, USA, Bahrain, South Africa, Australia and Japan. The company was sold to a Japanese multinational in the late 1990s and Danny remained on the board of the Japanese parent company.
Mr Fisher retired again in 2004 and was appointed as High Sheriff of the Isle of Wight in 2006, having been appointed a deputy lieutenant for the county several years earlier.
The following year he founded a renewable energy company on the Island with offices on the mainland. He remains chairman of this enterprise.
During his time on the Island he has held many public appointments (frequently as chairman) including the local NHS, the IW college, the IW economic partnership, the Royal IW Agricultural Society, the chamber of commerce, the Royal British Legion, governor of Ryde school and the local CLA.
His children were all educated at boarding school on the Island and all still live here. The family took up residence at their present home in Ashey in 1984.
Mr Fisher’s wife Anna plays an active role in church and educational affairs on the Island.
His interests include fishing, shooting and keeping fit. Three members of his family are marathon runners but have yet to beat his time!!
