HRH The Earl of Wessex visited the Island on Friday 23 March 2012.
The Earl visited Ryde School and unveil plaques to commemorate the opening of the Bembridge Building and Wessex Quadrangle. He also toured the school, meeting staff and students.
He then travelled to Ryde Pier, the oldest pier in Britain – and viewed restoration work and unveiled a plaque commemorating 200 years from the Act of Parliament which enabled the start of cross-Solent travel. His Royal Highness also boarded a Wightlink catamaran and met the crew.
