Disability Day at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club

On 10th July 2021 The Lord-Lieutenant attended the Royal Victoria Yacht Club’s Open Day for those with Disabilities.

The RVYC has been welcoming guests to its ‘Open Day for those with Disabilities’ since 1981 which was the first International Year of Disabled Persons.

Seven boats were available for guests to experience trips along Wootton Creek and into the Solent, some on fast RIBS; Whitewash and Ballistic, while wheel-chair users were able to enjoy the sailing experience on Wet Wheels and the Spirit of Scott Bader both specialist wheelchair carrying boats. La Luna, Fritha and Victoria offered more sedate journeys throughout the day.

The Commodore Chris Rickman commented, “After a difficult year I am immensely proud of our members and community for putting on such an awesome day for our guests. We are incredibly lucky to have a wonderful Club that we can share. My thanks to our generous members and sponsors who have made this all possible.”
