On Saturday 28th August 2021, the Lord-Lieutenant presented the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service to the Royal Isle of Wight County Show.
The Royal Isle of Wight Agricultural Society dates from 1874 and enjoyed the royal patronage of Queen Victoria from 1882. The annual County Show is a very well-established part of Island life and ran its 120th show in 2019. Over 160 volunteers plan, organise and set up the festival over the year, then run the festival on the day. Many volunteers have served for long periods of time – 5 for as long as 50 years; some families have served for
5 or 6 generations.
