John Sichel

John & Dee Sichel, along with the Lord-Lieutenant and Mr Sheldon are planting a stand of three Pinus pinea. These are the immortal umbrella pines made famous by their contribution to the skyline of Ancient Rome, particularly along the Appian Way. They are slow growing, should thrive in the current global warming (as they are mainly a Mediterranean tree) and will form a unique and gracious contribution to the footpath to Thorley, and will be a fitting memorial to our Queen. Nearby, although you cannot see them, are also planted two Cedars: Cedrus deodara and Cedrus libani (of Lebanon), both of which will be equally slow growing but equally magnificent once they achieve maturity.
