On Tuesday 24th July, The Duchess of Cornwall arrived at Queen Victoria’s private beach at Osborne where she was met by Dame Judi Dench – the patron of the Friends of Osborne and curator of Osborne House, Michael Hunter.
The Duchess toured various parts of the estate including the Swiss Cottage where she met members of staff and volunteers. Her Royal Highness and Dame Judi then took a horse and carriage from the Swiss Cottage to Osborne House where Dame Judi showed Her Royal Highness the new restored Durbar Room, which was one of the locations for the film Victoria and Abdul in which Dame Judi played Queen Victoria.
The Duchess ended her visit at Osborne by meeting members of staff, volunteers and representatives of the Osborne Horse Trials.
The Duchess then went on to Cowes where she named Red Funnel’s new vessel, Red Jet 7. From there, she attended a reception at the Royal Yacht Squadron.
