HRH Princess Beatrice visited the Island in June 2014. She visited Carisbrooke Castle — the former home of her ancestor and namesake, Princess Beatrice, who served as governor of the Island until her death in 1944. The princess also visited the Carisbrooke Castle museum, the Princess Beatrice Garden and First World War memorial chapel, before proceeding to Priory School, Whippingham, to help celebrate the school’s 150th anniversary.
At Whippingham Church she visited the tomb of the late Princess Beatrice and her husband, Prince Henry of Battenberg.
English Heritage hosted a lunch at Osborne House, where the princess met young entrepreneurs and achievers from the Island. Following the lunch, the princess was given a tour of Osborne House, Swiss Cottage and the beach.
